Great North Care Record – connecting health and care records across the region
The Great North Care Record operates in the North East of England and North Cumbria and covers the 3.6 million people living in our region.
The way it shares information is changing.
It will now begin to connect GPs, local hospitals, social care, community and mental health teams to provide a ‘view only’ display of a patient’s medical record from across the system. Previously only GP records were shared with health and care staff.
The Great North Care Record can be accessed by health and care staff, giving them important information recorded on patients from other parts of the NHS system, helping them to provide safer care.
The first organisations to make patient data available on the Great North Care Record are:
- Cumbria, Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust
- South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust
- Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
- GPs across the region
